Membership

THE APPLICATION PROCESS:

Those interested in Kiwanis membership shall subscribe to the Objectives of Kiwanis International as outlined in the “Who We Are” section of this web site. You are welcome to attend a luncheon meeting and, if interested in membership you may apply as follows:
  1. Submit an application sponsored by two active members.
  2. Submit payment of the initiation fee at time of application.
  3. Obtain a clear criminal background check as described on the membership application.

The release form for the background check is available from the club and should be submitted by the applicant directly to Mind Your Business, Inc. The cost of the background check will be paid by the club.

Your membership officially begins when the Board of Directors approves your application, which will typically be the 2nd Monday of the month following receipt of a complete application, initiation fee, and clear criminal background check.

WHAT DOES KIWANIS MEMBERSHIP INVOLVE?

The Hendersonville Kiwanis Club welcomes your interest in membership. We are a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. This club of over 150 members has served the community and national and worldwide efforts for over 90 years - since March 1921.

You will receive many personal benefits from being a Kiwanian such as having weekly fellowship with other community leaders and volunteers, establishing new friendships and business contacts, gaining satisfaction from helping make the lives of children better, improving the community where we live, and much more. With these benefits come responsibilities as a member of the Hendersonville Kiwanis Club. They include:

Financial Commitments (click here for current dues rates):
• Following board approval of your membership, you will be invoiced for prorated dues—from date of approval to the end of the quarter—which covers Kiwanis International and Carolinas District dues, club administrative costs, and meals for regular weekly members.
• Following your prorated dues, members will be invoiced quarterly in the amount of the current quarterly dues. If a member misses a meeting, there is no credit/refund for missed meals as these funds are used to support the administrative costs of running the club. Any surplus from these funds at the end of the fiscal year is moved to the Club’s Foundations for service programs and scholarships.
• Members are also expected to support club fundraisers by volunteering at, and selling tickets to, these events. Additionally, members are encouraged to contribute to the scholarship fund and any other major club fund raising efforts.

Being involved in Kiwanis activities is part of being a member, and you will be expected to participate in the following ways:
• Attend regular meetings (not a requirement, but strongly encouraged).
• Actively participate in club service projects and fundraisers.
• Be involved in other community service volunteer activities of your choice.
• Report monthly your Kiwanis and non-Kiwanis volunteer hours.
• Recruit, sponsor, and support new members.
• Consider taking an active role in club administrative activities.

There are over 600,000 other men and women in 98 countries in the world today who have made these commitments, and millions who have done so since Kiwanis was founded in 1915. You have a chance to become part of an organization that makes a huge difference in the lives of children and youth at home and around the world. Make a commitment today and be part of something great.
