Service First Committee

Are you looking for a unique way to serve your community but have limited time?  Then the Hendersonville Kiwanis Service First Committee may be for you!

What Is It? In 2013, the Kiwanis Club of Hendersonville sought a way to attract more Kiwanians to the club, but realized that attending the lunch time meetings was particularly difficult for many business people due to both the cost and the time away from work. After Kiwanis International adopted new rules allowing clubs to create a committee that allowed for special meetings designed for individuals who wanted to join the club, but simply couldn't attend the regular weekly meetings, the Kiwanis Club of Hendersonville jumped on board.

How It Helps: The Service First Committee allows community members whose schedule is too busy or who may not be able to afford weekly meals to join our club. Thus, the Kiwanis Club of Hendersonville is able to grow even more hands in service. By creating a way for these members to get involved the club is able to have a greater impact on Henderson County as well as the overall efforts of Kiwanis International. We've learned that the Service First Committee is a great retention tool as well. As some existing members have experienced changes in employment or financial hardship, the Service First Committee allows them to remain members of Kiwanis and reduces their time and financial investments to accommodate their situation.

Membership Status: Members of the Service First Committee have full membership status with the club. This means that they are eligible to attend all meetings, including board meetings. They are also eligible to serve in a committee chair role or as a member of the board.

About Meetings: The Service First Committee has two regular meetings each month, held on the first and third Wednesdays at 5:30 PM. One meeting is a business/social meeting and is held at various restaurants throughout Henderson County.  The second monthly meeting entails either planning or implementing a service project for youth or one of the many deserving organizations within Henderson County. Any member of the Hendersonville Kiwanis Club is welcome to attend any Service First Committee meeting.
